The Spanish Society for Natural Language Processing (SEPLN), together with the Culture Council of the Basque Government and the HiTZ centre, the Basque Language Technology Centre of the University of the Basque Country, organised a conference on the multilingual digital transition in the new language economy on 1st June. The modality of the conference was face-to-face, in Donostia, at the Palacio Miramar, and was also accessible via streaming.
Two main themes were addressed during the conference. On the one hand, it was discussed in the meeting how to make the multilingual digital transition successfully, thus ensuring the survival of our languages and cultures. On the other hand, how to do business in order to make the economic costs of multilingualism profitable was addressed.
Valentín García, Secretary General for Language Policy of the Xunta de Galicia, participated in the conference to present the Proxecto Nós. Some of the project's researchers, such as Marcos García and Senén Barro, also attended the conference to take part in two round tables on the language technology industry and the state of the art of language technologies from the perspective of multilingualism.
